The Achankovil Sri Dharmasastha Temple is a revered Hindu temple situated along the banks of the Achankovil River in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is recognized as one of the five significant temples dedicated to Lord Sastha in the state.
The other important temples dedicated to Lord Sastha in Kerala include Kulathupuzha, Aryankavu, Sabarimala, and Kanthamala. The idol housed in the Achankovil Sastha Temple is believed to have been consecrated by the sage Parashurama. Notably, the temple is renowned for its effectiveness in curing poisonous snakebites.
The Achankovil Sastha Temple is located near the banks of the Achankovil River, within the Aryankavu panchayat of Kollam district, Kerala. It is approximately 50 km (31 miles) from Punalur and about 85 km (53 miles) from Kollam.
The principal deity of the Achankovil Sastha Temple is Shasta, locally referred to as "Achankovil Andavan" or "Achankovil Arasan." He is represented as a householder (Gṛhastha), flanked by his two consorts, Purna and Pushkala, on either side.
