The Aghoresvara temple is a grand structure built from granite, featuring a distinctive blend of architectural styles. It incorporates elements from Vijayanagara architecture, the Karnataka Dravida style of the Later Chalukya dynasty, and the Hoysala Empire.
The temple consists of three shrines: the largest one dedicated to Aghoresvara (Shiva), a shrine to Parvati on its left, and a Nandi located in front of the main shrine.
The temple faces north and features a lofty roof with intricately designed doorways on the west, north, and east, with the northern doorway being the most impressive, flanked by two elephants on either side. The Garbhagriha (sanctum) is located at the core of the temple.
The Garbhagriha, constructed with massive stones, houses a gigantic pedestal that occupies nearly three-fourths of the space, intricately sculpted with 32 seated female figures known as Shakti Peethas. In the Sukhanasi, a small, translucent Nandi (bull) is carved out of white spar, adding to the temple's architectural beauty.
