Amararamam is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras that are sacred to the Hindu god Siva. The temple is located in Amaravathi town of Palnadu district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[1] Amareswara Swamy or Amaralingeswara Swamy refers to Lord Shiva in this temple. The temple is situated on the southern bank of Krishna River.

The Lord Amareswara is worshipped here with his consort Bala Chamundrika, who is considered the fourth of the 18 goddesses. The temple enshrines a 15 feet high white marble lingam and is surrounded by massive walls with towers. The temple stands close to the Krishna river.

The Sivalinga here is notably tall, requiring the archakas to mount a pedestal platform to perform the daily rituals and Abhisheka. The top of the Linga has a red stain on it.

The temple is surrounded on four sides by towering Gopuras in the Dravidian style, with the Vimana also reflecting this architectural style. The origin of this temple is shrouded in mystery, though there are many legends in the Puranas.
