Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, also known as Ananthagiri Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in Ananthagiri, Vikarabad district, Telangana, India. The temple is situated approximately 75 km from Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
According to the Skanda Purana, it is believed that the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple was established by the sage Rishi Markandeya during the Dvapara Yuga. Drawn to the tranquil atmosphere of the Ananthagiri Hills, Rishi Markandeya came to this location to meditate and practice yoga.
Every day, Rishi Markandeya would travel from Ananthagiri to Kasi to take a holy dip in the Ganges, using a cave as a passage, as part of his yoga sadhana.
One day, as Dwadasi approached in the early hours of the morning, Rishi Markandeya was unable to travel to Kasi. In a dream, Lord Vishnu appeared to him and, in his divine grace, arranged for the Ganges to flow to Ananthagiri, allowing the Rishi to perform his holy bath there.
