Hale Yedatore is a village located in the Krishnaraja Nagara taluk of Mysore district, Karnataka, India. It is situated approximately four kilometers north of the newly developed town of Krishnarajanagara, which is commercially significant.
The name "Yedatore" is derived from two Kannada words: yeda (meaning "left") and tore (meaning "river"). It refers to the "bend to the left" made by the river at that spot, which is considered sacred by Hindus.
There are steps leading from the temple down to the bathing areas (known as "ghats") by the river. In the 1920s, Yedatore village was severely affected by floodwaters from the River Kaveri, prompting the Mysore ruler to establish a new town, Krishnarajanagar, slightly to the south on elevated land.
The Arakeshwara Temple, located in Hale Yedatore, is a Hindu temple whose current structure dates back to the early 19th century, during the rule of the Mysore Kingdom. The temple is built in the traditional Dravidian architectural style. British Raj-era historian and epigraphist B. Lewis Rice noted that the temple's history and design reflect the period's cultural influences.
