The Bhimeshvara Temple, also known as Bhimesvara or Bhimeshwara, is located in the town of Nilagunda (also spelled Neelagunda) in the Davangere district of Karnataka, India.
The Archaeological Survey of India states that the Bhimeshvara Temple was built in the last quarter of the 11th century, during the period of Western Chalukya (also known as Kalyani or Later Chalukya) rule over the region.
Art historian Adam Hardy dates the Bhimeshvara Temple to the 12th century, describing its architectural style as "Later Chalukya, non-mainstream," with influences from Hoysala architecture.
The Bhimeshvara Temple features a chatuskuta vimana layout, consisting of four sanctums, with the shikhara (superstructure) remaining intact only above the main, west-facing shrine. The temple is constructed from soapstone.
