The Chalukya Shiva Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the oldest Hindu temples and is situated within the group of monuments at Aihole, Karnataka, India.
Originally dated to the 7th or 8th century, the Chalukya Shiva Temple is now believed to have been constructed around the 5th century. It is located to the south of the Durga Temple in Aihole.
The temple exhibits clear indications of being influenced by early timber models, none of which have survived. This is particularly evident in the construction of the roof of the mandapa.
The temple features a shrine (garba griha) with a mandapa in front and a covered path for circumambulating the sanctuary, a design seen in other early temples.
