The Chamundeshwari Temple is a Hindu temple situated at the summit of Chamundi Hills, approximately 13 km from the palace city of Mysuru in Karnataka, India.
The temple is dedicated to Chamundeshwari, a fierce form of Shakti, who has been venerated for centuries as the tutelary deity of the Maharaja of Mysuru.
Chamundeshwari is known as Nada Devi (ನಾಡ ದೇವಿ) by the people of Karnataka, meaning the State Goddess. The temple is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,300 feet above sea level.
The Chamundeshwari Temple is regarded as a Shakti Peetha, one of the 18 Shakti Peethas. It is known as Krouncha Pitha, as the region was referred to as Krouncha Puri in Puranic times. According to legend, it is believed that the hair of Sati fell at this location.
