Dodda Basavana Gudi, also known as the Nandi Temple, is located on Bull Temple Road in the Basavanagudi area of South Bengaluru, Karnataka. This Hindu temple is situated within the Bugle Rock park, adding to its scenic and historical significance.
The bull in question is Nandi, a revered Hindu demi-god and a devoted attendant of Lord Shiva. Dodda Basavana Gudi is considered one of the largest temples dedicated to Nandi in the world.
The stone monolith idol of Nandi is regularly anointed with fresh layers of butter, known as "benne" in Kannada. Nearby, there is an idol of the elephant-headed Hindu deity, Ganesha.
Every year, on the last Monday and Tuesday of the Hindu month of Karthika Maasa, a groundnut fair known as 'Kadalekaayi Parishe' is held at the temple. During this event, groundnuts are offered to the deity.
