The Gaurishvera Temple (also spelled Gaurishwara or Gaurisvara) is situated in the town of Yelandur, in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, India.
The Gaurishvara Temple was built by Singedepa Devabhupala, a local chief of the Hadinadu chiefdom, which was a vassal of the 16th-century Vijayanagara Empire.
The temple follows a simple plan, consisting of a sanctum (garbhagriha), a closed hall (mantapa), an open hall supported by granite pillars, and an unusual mahadwara (grand entrance) that lacks the typical tower (gopuram) above it.
This type of entrance is known as a bale mantapa (literally, "bangle hall") in a contemporary style. The sanctum houses the linga, the universal symbol of the Hindu god Shiva.
