The Gunja Narasima Swamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Tirumakudal Narasipura, a town in the Mysore district of Karnataka, India. The town is situated 20 miles southeast of the historically significant city of Mysore.
The Gunja Narasima Swamy Temple dates back to the 16th century during the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire. It is constructed in the traditional Dravidian style, featuring an imposing gopura (tower) over the entrance gate (mahadwara) and a four-pillared mantapa ("hall") in front of the sanctum.
The Gunja Narasima Swamy Temple is situated at the confluence of the Kaveri and Kabini rivers and is regarded as sacred by Hindus. The temple derives its name from the Gunja tree (Abrus precatorius), which grows at the front of the main entrance.
The temple features sculptures of the Hindu god Narasimha, depicted holding a gunja berry and stalk, as well as the demon king Hiranyakashipu.
