The Loganatha Perumal Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu, stands 2 km from Sikkal, Tamil Nadu, on the Tiruvarur-Nagapattinam highway. Constructed in the Dravidian architectural style, it is revered in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, a medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th–9th centuries CE. The temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, celebrating Vishnu as Loganatha Perumal and his consort, Lakshmi, as Loganayagi.
Built by the Medieval Cholas in the late 9th century CE, the temple received later contributions from the Vijayanagara kings and Madurai Nayaks. A granite wall encloses its shrines and temple tanks. The five-tiered rajagopuram serves as the temple’s gateway tower. Loganatha is believed to have appeared to sages like Brahma, Gautama, Vashista, and others, inviting devotees for worship and festivals year-round.
Six daily rituals and four yearly festivals are observed at Loganatha Perumal Temple, with the Panguni Brahmotsavam in April–May being the most significant. According to temple legends, sage Gautama worshiped here, while Vasishtha devotedly worshiped Vishnu in the form of Krishna. Krishna, in the form of a child, bestowed blessings upon devotees and promised them his divine presence at this sacred site.
The temple features a five-tiered rajagopuram and a large complex with a sacred temple tank outside. The central deity, Loganatha, is enshrined in an impressive sanctum accessed through a pillared hall with a flag staff at its axis. Surrounding the main sanctum are the shrines of Loganayagi and other deities, located within the first and second precincts, enhancing the temple’s spiritual significance.
