Madhur Sree Madanantheshwara-Siddhivinayaka Temple is a well-known temple dedicated to Shiva and Ganapati, situated 7 km (4.3 mi) from Kasaragod town along the banks of the Mogral River, which is locally referred to as Madhuvahini.
The temple places significant emphasis on Lord Ganapati, who is installed in the main sanctum facing south, symbolizing the deity known for vanquishing Kama, the god of desires. The priests serving this temple belong to the Shivalli Brahmin community. In addition to Ganapati, other deities worshipped here include Kashi Vishwanatha, Dharmasastha, Subrahmanya, Durga Parameshwari, Veerabhadra, and Gulika.
Madhur Temple was originally known as Shrimad Anantheswara Temple. According to local lore, an elderly woman named Madaru from the Tulu Moger community discovered an "Udbhava Murthy," a statue of Shiva Linga that was not crafted by human hands. Initially, the image of Ganapati was created by a boy who drew it, marking the beginning of the temple's significance.
According to the legend of Kumble Seme, Tipu Sultan intended to demolish the temple, similar to his actions at the Adooru Mahalingeswara Temple during his invasion of Coorg, Tulunadu, and Kerala. However, after drinking water from the temple's well, he was said to have changed his mind.
