Sree Mangala Devi Kannagi Temple is a historic shrine located near Pazhiyankudi in Theni district, Tamil Nadu, approximately 7 km from the town.
Perched at an altitude of about 1,337 meters within the Periyar Tiger Reserve, the temple offers panoramic views of the Eastern Ghats and neighboring villages.
The temple is dedicated to Kannagi, the central character of the Tamil epic "Silapathikaram." It was constructed around 2,000 years ago by Cheran Chenguttuvan, the king of ancient Tamilakam, to honor Kannagi's virtue and chastity.
The temple exemplifies Pandyan architectural style, featuring boundary walls and steps crafted from large stones. Despite its age, the structure has withstood the test of time, reflecting the craftsmanship of ancient builders.
