Mazhuvannur Maha Siva Kshethram is an ancient Hindu temple located in Tharuvana, Wayanad district, Kerala, India. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva.
This temple is perched atop the highest peak in the regions of Karingari, Paliyana, and Tharuvana. Daily poojas (prayers) have been conducted here since ancient times. The Mazhuvannur Thekke Illam family has played a significant role in overseeing these rituals for many centuries.
The name "Mazhuvannur" is thought to be derived from the Malayalam words "Mazhu" (axe), "Vanna" (come), and "Oor" (place), translating to "the place where the axe had fallen.
According to legend, after Banasura's intense meditation (tapas), Lord Shiva appeared before him and offered to grant him a wish. Banasura seized this opportunity to request that Lord Shiva protect his kingdom. Lord Shiva, moved by his devotion, agreed to fulfill his request.
