The Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple, also known as the Mullakkal Bhagwati Temple, is a prominent Hindu temple located in Mullakkal, Alappuzha, Kerala, India. The temple is designed in the traditional Kerala style and is surrounded by jasmine plants, which may have inspired its name, as "mullai" in Tamil and "mulla" in Malayalam both mean jasmine.
The sanctum sanctorum features an open roof, allowing for a unique ambiance. In addition to the main deity, the temple is home to various other deities, including Hanuman, Ganesha, Subramanya, Nagaraja, Navagraha, Krishna, and Ayyappa. A notable feature within the temple grounds is a banyan tree, under which a Shiva lingam is housed.
The temple is nearly 500 years old and has several stories regarding its origin. One tale suggests that the idol of the goddess was brought to the site by a group of exiled soldiers from the Thekkumkur territory, who initially placed the idol in a jasmine garden. Subsequently, King Devanarayana of Chembagasery constructed a temple in that jasmine garden.
Another story recounts that upon witnessing the goddess at the Kodungalloor Bhagavathy Temple, the soldiers were inspired to bring the idol to this location.
