Arulmigu Navaladi Karuppannaswami Temple in Mohanur, Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu, is a historic 500-1000-year-old temple dedicated to the deity Karuppu Sami, known as Navaladian or Judge Durai. Revered for its unique blend of tradition and spiritual significance, the temple is renowned for its Swayambu deity and the presence of two sacred trees: the "Holy" Naval tree and the "Special" Neem tree, both of which are central to the temple’s worship and legend.
According to legend, King Mohur Pazhayan, who ruled Mohanur, would seek the blessings of Navaladian before making significant decisions, establishing the Neem tree as the region’s sacred "Watch Tree." Following the invasion by Senguttuvan, the Naval tree began to wither, symbolizing the transition of power and resilience of faith. The deity’s close association with both trees has given rise to the names "Pattamarathaian" and "Navaladian," which devotees revere.
After centuries, the temple underwent significant developments, with construction on a grand new RajaGopuram enhancing its spiritual and architectural presence. This marked an essential milestone for the Navaladiyan, Mariyamman, and Kaaliamman temples in the region. To honor the occasion, a grand consecration ceremony, or Kumbabisekam, was planned on June 17, 2018, with three days of elaborate rituals beginning on June 15 and culminating in a vibrant festival.
The Kumbabisekam festival attracted numerous VIPs, including Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Deputy Speaker and Member of Lok Sabha M. Thambidurai, and other ministers. Their participation in this significant event highlighted the temple’s cultural and religious importance. The consecration event was a historic celebration of devotion, bringing together thousands of devotees and leaders in a shared celebration of tradition and heritage.
