The Pallikondeswara Temple, located in Surutapalli village of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, is a unique Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Unlike typical Shiva temples where the deity is represented in a Linga form, here, Lord Shiva is depicted in a reclining posture, resting on the lap of Goddess Parvati.
The temple is renowned for its distinctive portrayal of Lord Shiva as "Pallikondeswara," meaning "the reclining deity."
This representation is associated with the legend of Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), where Lord Shiva consumed poison to save the universe and rested here to recover.
