Pokkunny Siva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the village of Vadavannur in Alathur, Palakkad district, Kerala, India.
The Pokkunny Siva Temple is one of the 108 revered Shiva temples in Kerala. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is believed that the sage Parasurama installed the Shiva Linga at the nearby pond, known as Perumkulam, in Alathur. The temple itself was constructed by the king of the ancient Kollamkodu kingdom.
Lord Parashurama is believed to have installed the Shiva idol in the pool at Pokkunny Siva Temple to soften the intensity of the deity’s power and bring about a sense of tranquility. This unique tradition sets the temple apart from other Shiva temples.
