The Ranganatha Swamy and Someshwara temples are situated in the historic town of Magadi, located approximately 41 km from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, India.
These temples are designated as protected monuments by the Karnataka state division of the Archaeological Survey of India.
Magadi was originally founded by the Chola dynasty around 1139 A.D. during their rule over the region. It is also the birthplace of Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore.
Kempe Gowda, the Vijayanagara chieftain who founded Bangalore in the 16th century, along with the chiefs who succeeded him, constructed many architectural temples in the region.
