Savadatti is one of the oldest towns in the Belagavi district of Karnataka, India. It is a renowned Hindu pilgrimage center, located 78 kilometers from Belagavi and 41 kilometers from Dharwad.
Savadatti is also the name of the taluk (sub-district), which was formerly known as Parasgad. The town is home to several ancient temples.
The historical name of Savadatti was Sugandavarti or Sougandipura. It served as the capital of the Ratta dynasty from 875 to 1230, until the capital was moved to Belagavi.
In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, Belagavi served as the capital of the Rattas, the chieftains of Savadatti. The fort at Belagavi was constructed by Bichiraja of the Ratta Dynasty in 1204.
