Sree Madiyan Koolom Kshethrapalaka Temple, situated near Kanhangad in Kerala, India, is one of the most significant Hindu temples in the Kasargod district, with a history spanning approximately 500 years. The temple is dedicated to Kshetrapalakan Eswaran, while the mother goddess revered here is known as Kalarathri Amma, also referred to as Bhadrakali.
Shri Madiyan Kulam is one of the oldest temples in North Kerala, serving as an ancient shrine and the headquarters of the Allada Swaroopam Mookatham Nadu. The temple is renowned for its centuries-old wooden carvings and the epic poems associated with its rich cultural heritage.
The poems associated with Shri Madiyan Kulam highlight the unity of different religions and castes. A unique aspect of this temple is that while a Brahmin priest performs the pooja only at noon, the morning and evening rituals are conducted by a sect known as the Maniyanis.
Kshethrapalakan Eeshwaran is the main deity of the temple. The Udinur Kovilakam serves as the head of Alladadesham, which extends from Chittari to Olavara. According to legend, the deity chose to "sit" in this location upon finding his rightful place.
