Arulmigu Suyambulingaswamy Temple, a revered Shiva temple in Uvari, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, is renowned for its divine ambiance and spiritual significance. Here, Lord Shiva appears as Swayambunathar, a Swayambhu form that symbolizes his self-manifestation. Throughout the Tamil month of Margazhi (December–January), sunlight graces the deity, highlighting its sacred energy. The temple’s presiding goddess, Brahma Sakthi, complements Shiva’s power, enhancing the temple's mystical aura and drawing devotees from far and wide.
Located on the Tiruchendur-Kanyakumari road, this temple lies 35 kilometers from the nearest town and 25 kilometers from the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. The temple welcomes worshippers from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitors flock to the temple to experience its serene surroundings and receive blessings during these hours, finding peace and divine protection.
The temple is celebrated for its healing powers. It’s believed that bathing in the sea for 41 consecutive days and praying to the deity can alleviate illnesses and disabilities. As an act of gratitude, devotees carry sand in 11 or 41 baskets to the temple or craft Nāga idols to place in the temple precincts, fulfilling their vows with reverence and dedication.
