The Thiruvazhmarban Temple, also known as Sri Kuralappa Perumal Temple, is situated in Thiruppathisaram, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Vishnu, it is about 5 km northeast of Nagercoil and 20 km northwest of Kanyakumari. Constructed in the Dravidian style, the temple is celebrated in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Malayala Nadu, where Vishnu is worshipped as Thiruvazhmarban and his consort Lakshmi as Kamalavalli.
The temple features a granite wall enclosing its shrines and a tank located opposite the main entrance. It is believed that Thiruvazhmarban appeared to the Saptarishis and Udayanangai, the mother of Nammalvar. This site is significant as the birthplace of Nammalvar, a prominent figure among the twelve Alvar saints in Vaishnavism. The temple follows the Thenkalai tradition of worship, hosting daily rituals and major festivals like the Chittirai Brahmotsavam and Navaratri.
According to Hindu legend, the Saptarishis worshipped Vishnu here, which led to his divine appearance. Another tale narrates King Kulasekara's search for his lost horse, which he found near the temple tank. After bathing in the tank, he worshipped Vishnu and is believed to have constructed the temple, naming it Thiruvanparisaram, symbolizing respect and devotion to the deity who resides in the heart.
The temple spans about 2 acres and features a five-tiered gopuram. The central shrine houses the presiding deity, Thiruvazhmarban, in a seated posture. Unlike other temples, there is no separate shrine for Lakshmi, as she resides within Vishnu’s heart. The sanctum also includes images of the Saptarishis and other deities. A hall near the temple tank showcases paintings of Vishnu's ten avatars, enriching the temple's artistic heritage.
