Sree Valliyoorkavu Bhagavathi Temple is an ancient Bhagavathy temple situated near Mananthavady in the Wayanad district. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga, who is worshiped in three forms: Vana Durga, Bhadrakali, and Jala Durga.
The idol of the temple is believed to be self-manifested, and the annual festival takes place in March, lasting for 14 days. This major event attracts thousands of devotees from all over, making it one of the largest celebrations in the region.
The temple hosts numerous rituals during the festival, including the Oppana Varavu, which features a procession from the Cheramkode Bhagavathy Temple in Kallody, near Mananthavady. Another significant event is the Adiyaras.
The festival culminates with the Arattu of Valliyooramma, concluding when the Oppana Varavu procession returns to the Cheramkode Bhagavathy Temple after the Rudhirakkolam ritual.
